RULE FOUR
The camera. The law. The pistol. Today, the one with a uniform.
Rules one to three are about your neighbors. This one is about the state.
Any street, any gate, any hour: a police check. An officer stops you and asks for your pistol. You produce it. They hand it back. You go on with your day.
If you can't produce it, you're put to sleep where you stand.
That's the whole check. It takes less time than buying bread.
So nobody forgets. Nobody leaves it on the chair. A woman will go back up six floors for her pistol the way you'd go back for your phone, only faster.

Four rules. That's the entire law, as far as you need it. Everything else in this city is manners.
Monday, you'll watch what those four rules do to one woman who, as far as anyone can tell, follows every one of them. She's going to meet a check sooner than she'd like. Watch her hands.
You know the feeling when a police car slides in behind you and you've done nothing? That, in every doorway, every day. Reply with one word for it.
Season Two begins Monday, November 9, at 7:07 a.m. Eastern. Three mornings from now. Two more notes from me before then.
New here? Rule one, rule two and rule three are free to read.
Forward this to the friend who always has her papers in order. The first five days of the season are free for anyone who arrives late. After Friday the 13th, the archive closes to everyone but members.
You're reading this because a Keeper sent it to you. Be in the building before she moves in.
Keep this quiet.
Eren.
